BizTalk 2009 - Switch Databases Recovery Model to simple

    General discussion

  • Hi all,

I want to switch the recovery model of BizTalkMsgBoxDb and BizTalkDTADb to simple on a production environment. We're using a third party solution for backup strategy. for high availability i plan to deploy cluster instead of log shipping.

    any recommandation?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Simple receovery model is not recommended way.  Please see extract below from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc296892(BTS.10).aspx.

"The Backup BizTalk Server job is the only supported method to backup the BizTalk Server databases and requires that all of the BizTalk Server databases are configured to use the SQL Server full recovery model. "

  • Hi,

Finally i think that simple recovery model is not a good idea cause the backup and the archive job doesn't work correctly.

  • Hi

Which third party solution you are using for backup strategy? Also Simple recovery model is not recommended.

Any reason you are not using BizTalk Log shipping ?

  • Hi,

I'm using clustering A/P with third party backup solution cause log shipping require an additional sql server 2008 licence. Also clustering provide a High-Availability and automatic FAILOVER wich not the case with Log Shipping.

  • Hi Tarik,

If SQL Instance is not being used as a production then i believe you would not need a license for that.

    Thanks
