inurl: operator broken?

    Question

  • I'm issuing a small number of queries through the Search API. Whenever my search query contains the inurl: operator, I get back an empty XML document.

I can reproduce this through the live search UI too. Searching for anything with the inurl: operator on live.com gives me back an empty page. Anyone else notice this?

The inurl: operator used to work just fine, but some time during the past few days it appears to have broken.

  • The Live Search team temporarily blocked this operator, along with some other advanced operators, because it was being abused for something "what appears to be mass automated usage for data mining". You can read their official announcement on their team blog.
