Obtaining a Registration Code for Visual Basic 2010 Express

    Question

  • I am trying to obtain the registration code for Visual Basic 2010 Express.  When I select the Obtain online it redirects me to the MSDN site but does not respond.  If I close the registration process it closes the Visual Basic application.  How can I obtain the registration code for the product?  I have even uninstalled, reinstalled and used regedit to modify registry entries.  Please help I am attending a class and being unable to pweform the assignments will be very difficult to recover from.

  • Hi EdC,

As far as I know, Visual Studio Express requires registration after 30 days. However, you can still register the product after expired. Based on your description, I think the registration failure should be caused by some IE security/cookie/firewall settings that block the page to display correctly. You can try lower your security settings and try again.

Additionally, since this is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. You can also visit the following site for more information and support on licensing issues: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/mplahome.mspx.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.

  • Hi Edc,

    Welcome to the MSDN.

I agree with pvdg42; this forum is not dedicated for issues other than general programming.

    Instructions for registering:

Once you click "register" you should see a form pop up saying you need to obtain the code. Click "Obtain" code and your internet browser should open with a registration form asking for some information. Please ensure you are using a valid email address in the email field. The MSDN will not send any email unless you ask for them to. Using a valid email is crucial as the registration code will be sent to that email. Once you complete the form, wait up to 15 minutes for an email with the code and paste the code into Visual Basic 2010 Express.

    Hope this helps,

  • Thank you both for your replies.  Due to time limitations I installed the software on another machine and registered immediately.  Seems there is an issue if you exceed the 30 days before registering.  Again your feedback was very much appreciated.

you have 30 days to register the product, after which you can not use it unless you register before the expiry of 30 days.

    Regards.
