How to monitor whether SSL works or not between the client and SQL 2008 R2 server?

    Question

  • Hi,

I am working on the setup of ssl for the sql 2008 R2 server and following the instruction from here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316898). The valid certificate has been hooked up to the server. I also set up the property “encrypt” to be true. Windows firewall runs. I assign port 443 for the SSL. In addition, the client’s connection string also has “encrypt=true”. So, the traffic between client and server should be encrypted by ssl.

To check whether ssl works or not, I use the tool Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 in the sql server to check the traffic between client (e.g., a web app) and server. The info on the Monitor does not have anything related to encryption. It seems SSL does not exist in the traffic. So, the question is how I can verify ssl really works between client and server. Thanks.
