SQL Server 2008 R2 Workgroup SP1 install failure on Server 2003 x86

    Question

  • Trying to install service pack 1 to an existing 2008 R2 install.  SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU creates temp folder and begins extracting files.  Blank command screen pops up and then closes.  Temp folder created earlier is deleted and installation fails.

  • Hello,

Please open the Command Prompt with elevated privileges (Run as Administrator) and run the following command:

    winmgmt /verifyrepository

Make sure the command says “WMI repository is consistent”.

    Hope this helps.

  • The command comes back with nothing.  Looks like this switch is not available on Server 2003

  • Hi Shane,

Before installing the service pack, we need to verify if you choose the correct file to download and install, and if you download the Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2008 R2 from the link.To install or update SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2, we will need administrative rights on the computer.

There is more details about SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 release notes, you can review the following article.
