I'm brand new to bing maps. I have set-up the bing maps web services, set-up the bing maps AJAX control, and also got a free download of the Simplovation map control. I'm having a hrad time knowing where to go to do simple tasks.

Getting the coordinates relating to an address is called geocoding.
Bing Maps offers two methods of geocoding - either using REST or SOAP. When you say you've "set-up the bing maps web services", I'm guessing you're talking about the SOAP services, but REST are actually much easier to use.
In your server-side codebehing just make an HTTPRequest to the URL as shown below, substituting in your Bing Maps key and the address you want to geocode:
