Old town names displayed in Basque country (Spain)

    Question

  • Hi all,

I'm using bing maps in an asset tracking application and one of our customers has reported that the Basque country names that are displayed on the Map are old names.

    They've provided the following examples:

Basque Country in Spain which have changed in last 10 years:

                                    WRONG (Old name)                          Correct

                                     Zaldivia                                               Zaldibia

                                     Villafranca de Ordicia                        Ordizia

                                     Cestona                                                 Zestoa

                                     Azcoitia                                                 Azkoitia

                                     Zumaya                                                  Zumaia

                                     Icazteguieta                                        Ikaztegieta

                                     Deva                                                       Deba

                                     Lequeitio                                              Lekeitio

                                     Ciérvena                                               Zierbena

                                     Motrico                                                 Mutriku

                                     Elanchove                                             Elantxobe

                                     Lazcano                                                 Lazkao

                                     Aya                                                          Aia

                                     Goyáz                                                     Goiatz

We're setting the culture when we load the map as follows

     https://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=7.0&s=1&mkt=es-ES

Can someone please offer a solution to get the map to display the correct town names?

    Thanks,

    Sabry

  • I'll pass this on to the dev team for investigation. Since you have an asset tracking application I assume you have a Bing Maps license (required for all asset tracking applications). As such you can report this issue directly to the Bing Maps Enterprise support team who will be able to also report this issue, provide with a bug ID and updates as needed. If you have an enterprise account log into the Bing Maps portal and you should see a link for Enterprise user Support.

  • For anyone who comes across this issue, the problem was related to the wrong culture code being used by the application. In Basque the culture code eu should be used, not es-ES.

  • Thanks Ricky.

I look forward to receiving feedback on this issue.

We've also raised a support ticket with the Bing support group on this one (support request: 113091710791076)

    Kind regards,

    Sabry
