bakup to another network server - permission issue

    Question

  • Hi,
I am trying to backup from my sql 2005 DB which
is on windows server 2003 to sql 2008R2 on windows server 2008R2 but getting
    access denied,
I have tried using SSMS, T-Sql but still getting issue with
    this.
I have created backup folder on my 2008R2 server and assign the full
access to Everyone on security permission, I have added user and also grant the
    FUll Permission.

    1) I tried using SSMS ut didn't work
    2) I tried using
    T-sql, didn't work

I have just install the sql 2008R2 on Windows 2008
    R2.

Just one point where ever you are trying to take backup or dump backup make sure your SQL SERVER SERVICE account has appropriate permission there.

You can also add your acc in security tab of the folder

  • Hi,

From your post subject, the Windows 2008R2 server is in another domain?  If so, is there a trust between domains?  If yes, just permission the folder for the domaina\windows2003server (that is, the service running the SQL Server services on the win2k3 server).

If not, you'll have to authenticate before running the backups, e.g. something like: net use z: \\win2k8r2\myshare /u:domain2\domuser password.

Can you even ping the other server?

    Thanks, Andrew

  • Thanks Shanky.

    I can ping it.

I have also tried to give Everyone Full Control access in permission.
