SharePoint Designer 2013 workflow service

    Question

  • Hello,

I installed SharePoint Designer 2013 on my workstation Windows Server 2012, but when I try to create a Site Workflow, I get the alert about the Platform Type:

"The option for the SharePoint 2013 Workflow platform is not available because the workflow service is not configured on the server. Please contact your administrator".

So, how can we configure the workflow service?

    Thanks for your help.

  • For the 2013 workflow option to show up you need to install and configure Workflow Manager 1.0 for use in SharePoint.  here's an article on how to install it.

  • Hello Paul stork,

I install and configure workflow manager and register it to sharepoint 2013. I create a very simple workflow to set a column. and I set that workflow can start automatically when an item added or changed. when I add an item, select it and click on workflows button of list item ribbon, the workflow is on started mode, after about one minute it’s status changed to canceled without any errors. What’s wrong?? How could I debug it and find the problem???

    Any idea???

    Thanks in advance!

  • When I've seen that behavior in the past it was a problem with the SSL certificates being used for communication with Workflow Manager.  Make sure the certs used in the workflow manager server have been added and are trusted by SharePoint.

  • Hi,

I have SharePoint Server 2013 and have installed the Workflow Manager 1.0. But I do not see any "AppFabric Workflow Management Service" under windows service(services.msc). As service is not there SPD 2013 wont show me option for SP2013 Workflow.

There were no error while installation of SharePoint server 2013 and Workflow Manager 1.0.

Any guide line or hint would be appriciated.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Did you run the Register-spworkflow powershell command specified in the article to register the workflow service with SharePoint?  That's what makes the workflow available as a service in SharePoint.  Not sure why you are looking for "AppFabric Workflow Management Service" since that isn't mentioned anywhere in the configuration article I provided.  Follow the article quoted in the answer and Workflow should be available.  If you continue to have issues I would suggest posting another question with your specific problems rather than adding a comment to a thread that was last used a year ago.
