Help upgrading WSP Enterprise 1.1.2 to 1.2.0

    Question

  • I could use some help here. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. My other components seem to have upgraded successful. WebsitePanel Portal 1.2.1 and WebsitePanel Server 1.2.1. I'm stuck on WebsitePanel Enterprise 1.1.2. I check for updates...it says Enterprise Server 1.2.0 is available. I proceed to install. 2 clicks later I get an error every time.

In the log below I see "Invalid application pool name" but I'm not sure if that is actually the problem. I checked in IIS and everything appears correct.

    I really appreciate the help.

  • Thats exactly how it responded with DNP Upgrade.

Alright. well WSP is just a simple website so..

    1) Go to IIS --> Delete the Websitepanel sites --> Delete Websitepanels app pools

    2) Remove the actual WSP Files (c:/websitepanel in most cases)

    3) Remove the Websitepanel Database

    4) Remove WebsitePanel users (computer management)

Once WSP is off your pc..

You can pretty much simply start from scratch.. so you install enterprise first --> Install Portal --> install server (or just pick the all in one)

--> then re-import your WSP database to the propper place :-)

It's a bit weird to do it like this.. but it's very effective :-)

  • Hello,

    Well.. the quick solution:

    1) Backup mssql database of WSP

    2) Remove Enterprise

    3) Install enterprise 1.2.1

    4) Re-import the WSP Database

    5) Look up the mssql update file of the Enterprise 1.2.1 update package (The update package can be found here: http://websitepanel.codeplex.com/releases/view/77278#DownloadId=344905 )

    6) Remove/edit  the few top lines if you get a query error.. and then execute it in the imported WSP database

This usually gets rid of the dumb issues like this and you will keep all the information you used to have.

If you need any assistance please mail me at m.tiggelaar (at) key4ce.eu

  • thank you for your reply! Do you suggest doing the uninstall and reinstall through the WebsitePanel Installer or some manual way?

i backed up the database and went to Uninstall Enterprise. It opened the wizard and I went through it but it doesn't appear to be uninstalled. The Enterprise still shows in the list for WSPInstaller and the database and folders are all still there.

  • Alright..

Thats weird.. so you click next.. refresh components etc.. and it's all still active?

How about removing the installer it self and download 1.2.1 installer from codeplex install it fresh?(and then do the import db steps as above)

(this fixed the issue with upgrading from the old DotNetNuke panel to 1.2.0 WSP ;-)

  • yes, refresh components and it's all still active.

I'll remove the installer and give that a try and post results

  • I uninstalled the WSPInstaller and reinstalled it. It now has a clean config file and doesn't show my components installed (although I backed up my previous config file). It just shows them all as new installs. How do I go about uninstalling Enterprise from here?

Thanks again for all the help.
