VS 2010 fails to open or create new projects and crashes right after

    Question

  • Hey
I am working with VS 2010 Ultimate and Win 7 for a long time now.
Recently I could not open any project or even create any new one.

I get this msg, which after the VS just crash.

The 'VsDebugPresentationPackage, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' package did not load correctly.

The problem may have been caused by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension. You can get more information by running the application together with the /log parameter on the command line, and then examining the file 'C:\Users\Dror\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\ActivityLog.xml'.

My activity Log has this in it

        <record>283</record>
        2012/03/12 10:04:09.988
        <type>Error</type>
        VisualStudio

End package load [VsDebugPresentationPackage, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a]

80004005 - E_FAIL

<errorinfo>Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextManager.Interop.8.0, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.</errorinfo>

Any assistance will be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dror

  • Do you have any VS addins or third party extensions installed? What happens if you remove them?

If your VS 2010 continues to malfunction with third party tools removed, I suggest you perform a repair install.
