Can Not download Trial version of Project Pro 2013

    Question

  • I tried to download MS Project Pro 2013.  Originally the download started and it asked me if I wanted to 'run' or 'save'.  I selected 'run'.  The download seemed to occur and it opened as a set of files in WinZip.  There was a menu option in WinZip that said install.  I selected the install option and it came back and said that my system was not compatible.

I am running Windows 7, 4 GB memory, ....  I should be compatible.

It appeared that the website downloaded the 64 bit version even though I had 32 bit in my profile.

I shut down the machine to clear any temporary files since the install never took place.  I then rebooted and went to the website to download a 32 bit version of MS Project Pro 2013.  I can not get a download to take place.  The websites simply take me back and forth between them.  For example, I go between the TechNet evaluation page and the TechNet download page.  Each time all that happens is another browser window opens but a download never starts.

I end up with multiple TN TechNet Evaluation, TN Download Microsoft .... tabs/pages opened but no download starts.

Can someone help me get a download on my machine so I can evaluate MS Project Pro 2013?  I would not mind trying 2013 standard but I do not see that as a trial option.

    Kurt.

  • Hi Krohig - I managed to get the same behavior - but noticed that the Url when it opens the new tab contains the download Url (starts with http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com...) and if you copy this part of the Url from the second http to the .img at the end into a new browser then it will start your download.

Or alternatively as Mafarram suggests - just delete everything up to the 2nd http...

Also note that the downloaded file is a .img file - and you can either burn this to a DVD - or with Windows 8 (or 8.1) you can just open the .img file using Windows Explorer and then run the setup.exe file you see in the directory listing.  Several other programs such as 7-Zip will also allow you to open or extract the files from the .img as you mention you have Windows 7.

Sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced and I have contacted the owners of that page within Microsoft to try and get this resolved.

    Best regards,

    Brian.

  • Dear Brian,

Your answer was very helpful. But reading you post at the beginning I didn't understand well how to do that but in the end I realize that I should delete the first part of the URL in the new window until http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com......img.

    Thank you very much,

    Regards

    Mafarram

  • Thanks Mafarram - that is a much better way of explaining it than my attempt :).
