I like to write a little programm, which does nothing else but indicating if Data is on the wire of the port
Does somebody know how to check, if there is something transfered on a serial port, without opening the port itself? I think that there could be a possibility to check the status of the operating -system, but not sure.
Chicken-and-egg problem: the data disappears if the port isn't open. Even if the device is sending, it doesn't go anywhere so you might as well say there is no data. At the hardware level you could look in the UART's registers but Windows doesn't let you do that.
