How to set bubble size in a scatter bubble chart

    Question

  • Hi there,

I have a scatter -bubble chart in my report.

I need to display bubble size based upon a field in my dataset.

I tried putting Size expression for the chart as (Fields!SavingPotential.Value). But I can not see the bubble size changing based upon savings value.

Please let me know if I m missing any settings.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Manisha,

If I understand correctly, the issue is that the bubble size cannot change based on [SavingPotential] field value, right? While after testing it in my own environment, it works well. So it is hard to give you the exact solution to solve this issue base on your description.

The following steps which I tested is for your reference:
    1. Create a DataSet named DataSet1 with the following query statement:

SELECT 'A' AS person, 3 AS days, 323 AS SavingPotential
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'A' AS p, 4 AS d, 400 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'A' AS p, 1 AS d, 900 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'A' AS p, 5 AS d, 500 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'A' AS p, 6 AS d, 600 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'A' AS p, 7 AS d, 700 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'B' AS p, 3 AS d, 323 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'B' AS p, 6 AS d, 450 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'C' AS p, 3 AS d, 420 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'C' AS p, 5 AS d, 512 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'C' AS p, 1 AS d, 300 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'C' AS p, 7 AS d, 400 AS Expr1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT 'B' AS p, 2 AS d, null AS Expr1

    2. Drag a Bubble Scatter Chart from Toolbox to design surface.
    3. Add a field named person in Series Groups pane, and a field named days in Category Groups pane, then add a field named SavingPotential in Values pane.
    4. In Values pane, Right-click the size to select Series Properties, modify the Bubble size with this expression: Fields!SavingPotential.Value

Maybe I have simplify the problem which you occurred, and if this issue still exists, please provide us more information about the report. So that we can make further analysis and help you out.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Hi Katherine.

    Thanks for your effort.

I have solved that issue by myself. Now the bubble size is displayed as per the Saving Potential. I am not very sure of what went wrong but when I deleted the chart completely and repeated the same steps, all worked as expected.

    Thanks again.
