Visual Basic Express won't install.

    Question

  • I recently tried to install the VB express edition. I went through all the agreemetns and such, but when it came time to install, it wouldn't. It has done this on several occasions. it will being to install but then stop and says it cannot be installed. It gives me no error messages or anything. It just says: "The following item could not be installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0." Anything I could do?

What version of VB express do you have? Is it a beta version?

Have you have ANY .DOTNet software running on your system prior to this attemtped installation?

    Look in <sysdevice>:/windows/microsoft.net/framework

Do you see any directories that start with v2.0? If so what are they?

  • I believe that it is the beta. I have no .NET software running during the installation. I just looked in C:/windows/microsoft.net/framework. Nothing in that directory begins with v2.0.

  • Try installing Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 separately. You can get it from Windows Update or go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

  • I have downloaded and installed the .NET Framework 2.0 seperately. I tried once again to install the express editions with no success. Also, no previous versions of VS2005 are installed so it would be impossible to remove them.

  • "I believe that it is the beta."

A beta will not install if you downloaded the RTM version of the framework.

They are not compatible frameworks, although the beta had a v2.0 framework it was an earlier version.

I Don't Fear You..... This is a Terrible Problem..... It's MS's Fault Notice who posted the Solution....... Do This or you are off to a reformat, new computer, or NO VB Express... Your Concept Of Authority Around Here is very WEAK......
