Hi
We are in the process to upgrade our datawarehouse (BI-enviroment) from SQL 2000 to Sharepoint 2010, SQL 2012 etc.
We have today an nearly untouched Sharepoint server with the BI-tools from Sharepoint 2010 and SQl 2008 R2 and I want to upgrade thoose tool to SQL 2012 Powerpivot, Performance Point etc.....if thats possible. We have an intranet Sharepoint project going on but we dont have time to wait for them so instead of installing a new Sharepoint server we thought we could use this on.
Is there any diffrences between SQL 2008 R2 BI-tools and SQL 2012?This is a test enviroment

Hi,
To your upgrate issue, you can upgrade those tool to SQL 2012 Powerpivot, Performance Point, but you have to first uninstall the previous version, and then install the current version. The PowerPivot add-in to Excel cannot be upgraded using a Setup program, that is to say you cannot use an older and newer version of the add-in on the same computer. For the new add-in you can download it from here
Additionally, you can only save it on a Microsoft SQL Server Code-Named “Denali”, Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP 3) version of PowerPivot for SharePoint. You cannot save it to a SQL Server 2008 R2 PowerPivot server. So you have to install Denali, as Microsoft SQL Server Code-Named “Denali”, Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP 3) version of PowerPivot is running on the instance of SQL Server Denali, there is no relationship with Sharepoint server 2010, Denali support Sharepoint server 2010 integration, but you have to unstall these BI tools firstly, then install new the version of BI.
To the difference between SQL 2008 R2 BI-tools and Denali, currently we can know some of them(as it is not the RTM), such as: Microsoft® PowerPivot for Microsoft® Excel 2010 provides ground-breaking technology; fast manipulation of large data sets, streamlined integration of data, and the ability to effortlessly share your analysis through Microsoft® SharePoint

Hi there,
This article might help you: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210646(SQL.110).aspx
Sorry this isn't a straight to the chase answer, but I'm afraid some homework will be required :)

Another more current question.
Power pivot, performance point etc etc for SQL 2012 RC0 in Sharepoint. Do we need to upgrade them or has it not been any changes there?
