    What do u mean stopping the web aplication ?

    You just hace to stop it from central adminsitration

    Stop the application pool on IIS. In Central Admin, I can only delete the web application.

    You dont neet to do that to stop a timer job you just have to follow the link below

    You just have to disable the time job from central administration

    You suggest to stop all timer jobs manually  in the central admin? We have 6 web applications and each one has close to 40 timer job.  Is there a quick way to do this?

    you can stop the timer service from service.msc

    service name is SharePoint 2010 Timer
