Performance issue reported accessing intranet site from outside office network

Question

We have hosted a SharePoint 2010 web application as intranet using port 80 and DNS URL without SSL. While accessing the site inside office, the page response is less than 2 seconds but. But when user try to access site outside office network ( from home), the page is response is more than 1 minutes. The custom is complaining the site performance, should I need any extra configuration like firewall ,SSL or some else to improve the performance? Please advice.

IE developer tools network tab is a convenient tool to display the timing of requests and responses are  completed  between the browser and the web server. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg130952(v=vs.85).aspx
