SP Foundation 2010 - Unable to open newly created web application

Question

I have created a new web application using SP central administration tool. I have SP foundation 2010 installed on Windows 7 on 64 bit laptop.

New web application created successfully...however unable to open the newly created web application by using its url.

getting 'internet explorer cannot display the webpage' message. enabled both anonymous and basic authentication enabled in IIS 7.

What all permissions to be given??

After creating a web application you need to create at least one site collection in the web application or there is nothing to open.  Here's an article on creating a site collection.

When you create a site collection you will add up to two users as Site Collection Administrators.  You'll need to log in to the site collection as one of those users to add additional users.
