Help Library Manager shortcomings
-
Donnerstag, 2. Februar 2012 03:41So I install VS2010 and the associated help files. At the end of the installation I choose to update the help content. The Help Library Manager comes up and shows there is 1300MB worth of help file updates. So I start downloading and of course it fails halfway through. No problem, I'll just restart it and pick up where it left off. WRONG. All content previously downloaded is deleted and you start from the beginning. My God, it's full of fail. I've tried twice more and both times it failed again. I read that somebody had the same problem and solved it by deleting all local help then installing and updating one help topic at a time; guess I'll try that if the fails continue.

Hi,
I also made the experience that the download quite easily breaks and that the whole download is started from the beginning again if started again.
I am not sure, that you have to wipe your help and download everything again. I would try to update one package at a time first. That might do the job already.
I had problems in the past where I think that the company proxies caused the trouble. But I cannot say that for sure. (Happily it works fine now!)
One thing that might be worth a look could be http://vshelpdownloader.codeplex.com/. That tool allows to download the current help packages. That way you should not need to update anything after installing all packages.
With kind regards,
Konrad
