Answered TFS Alert System

I'm fairly new to TFS and am working as a QA for an organization. I created a test handoff template for developers for creating and assigning to QA. Now my question was that is there any way to setup automatic alerts (for a group) for addition or modification of any new items in a certain project?

I'm aware of setting up alerts for yourself but it would be really great if I could setup automatic alerts in order to notify whole QA group when ever an item is created and assigned to them. It can have various applications but my first priority is this right here.

    Thanks for any help.

Download the TFS power tools => http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/c255a1e4-04ba-4f68-8f4e-cd473d6b971f

This brings with it the alert explorer "A plug-in to Visual Studio, Alerts Explorer provides a graphical user interface that supports flexible subscription of alerts based on check-in, work item change, or build completion.

Provides you far more control on alerts, you can set up alerts for distribution lists on more filtered events. Once you have installed the power tools, you will see a bunch of help files in the directory, navigate to the following "mhtml:file://C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 Power Tools\Help\AlertsExplorer.mht#_Creating_a_Work" on how to create alerts from a work item template.

Well, I have that solution installed but that can only setup alerts for work items that have already been created. I was thinking of a more integrated solution which can set global alerts rather then per item/project.

    Hi Tarantular5,

    Thanks for your post.

We can edit the Alert Definition manually, for example, when you create the A Work Item was assigned to me alert, if you want to create this work item alerts under the Team Project Collection level(not under the specific Team Project), you can try to remove the PortfolioProject field from Alert Definition. Any new created work item which assigned that account under Team Project Collection, will receive the alert.

The work item alert not only for existed work items.
