    Hi J_bond,

    Thanks for your post.

What’s the version of your TFS, 2010 or 2012?

Under which detailed scenario you occurred this error? Please provide the detailed steps here.

If your TFS is 2010, please upgrade your VS 2010 and TFS 2010 both to VS 2010 SP1 and TFS 2010 SP1.

And you can try to clean the Cache and restart TFS Server manually:

    1.        Clean the Cache folder on client computer. The folder path is: C:\Users\username(Team Explorer user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Team Foundation\3.0\Cache(os: Windows Server 2008 R2)
    2. Clean the Cache folder on Server machine. The folder path is: C:\Users\username(Web access user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Team Foundation\3.0\Cache(os: Windows Server 2008 R2)
    3. After cleaned, on Server machine, click Start and select Run… to open the dialog box, then input iisreset.exe and click OK, wait it run completely.

Let me try your solution.Lets see.

I do have TFS 2010 with SP1 only.

Let me explain you again the details:

When I go to add any new User to the available groups.I do get below error:

TF14045: The identity [Team Project Name]\Contributors Account is not a recognized identity

Its only happening with few projects(hardly 1-2 numbers).Rest all projects are fine.

I tried deleting this Usergroup & recreted the same then again it shows same error with different TFS group. So in results I dont want to take risk to remove the current TFS groups as I cant add them back.

I have seen msdn documenttaion for this error.I didnt find this much helpful.

1)There are not duplicate projects with same name in different collections. This possibility is not there with my scenario.

Hope this adds some more understanding.

    Hi J_bond,

    Thanks for your reply.

To add users to the “issue” Team Project on other clients, also received the same error?

Have you cleaned the Cache and restarted TFS Server?

And you can open the Event Viewer log, check if there’s any error relate to this issue.

I'll check the possibilities of using other clients.I guess other client meaning TFS Admin tool?

I need to clear the cache as well on TFS server.Restarting would be risk as its production server & we generally plan if server needs to restart. We will discuss this possibility & work on it.Lets see.

    Hi J_bond,

    Thanks for your reply.

The other clients mean the machines which installed VS 2010 or Team Explorer 2010, logon other clients, then try to add users to that ‘issue’ Team Project using Team Explorer.
