Answered Default "Build" setup from Upgrade Wizard

We upgraded a TFS 2008 system to TFS 2010 on new hardware using the TFS Administration Console upgrade option.  I don’t understand the following items detailed below at all. Is this behavior normal? Is it because we (possibly) had a TFS 2008 Build service installed?

In the Console I select "Build Configuration" and take all the defaults.  A dialog appears:

    "

The following resources have already been configured for this build service:

    1 controller, 1 agent(s);

Would you like to keep these resources?

Click No to continue using the wizard to configure new resources for this build

    ".

I selected the default, "Yes", as I wasn't certain what it was asking me.  I continue clicking "Next" and after the Configuration Progress dialog completes successfully, this appears:

    "

Communication failure between the Administration Console and the Build Service. The pipe endpoint 'net.pipe:/build/ServiceHost/1" could not be found on your local machine.

This is usually causes by the Build Service being in an incorrect state.

Would you like to restart the Build Service?....

    "

I selected "yes”  and the process completes by displaying with  "0 error(s) and 0 warning(s).

What exactly was all that about?

    Hi BD,

    Thanks for your post.

I think it because the TFS 2008 Build Service installed.

After the process completed, the Build Service works fine for your TFS 2010?

I don't know how to test it but the TFS 2010 Build process said it completed with 0 error(s) and 0 warnings(0).

As I said, I know we have not used the Build process (TFS 2008) for anything significant. Maybe it would be smarter to let the Wizard configure new build resources for us ?

    Hi BD,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you can reconfigure the Build Service for your TFS 2010.
