Not able to restore the database in SQL Server 2008 R2

Question

Hi,

when i restore the database in SQL Server 2008 R2 i got this error.

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The media family on device 'D:\GoldMine\GoldMine_backup_2012_03_05_170024_5383415.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241)

I think that you've probably got a corrupt backup there.  Are you able to take another backup and restore that?

Hmmmmm, didn't they drop backward compatibility support for sql2000 databases in R2?, or was it sql 7.0??

Yup, they dropped 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0....... SQL2000 (80) should be good though I heard it might be dropped in sql 2012?
