Model based on KPI and NOT Reports

Question

Just wanted to get clarified the following ...

Assume that i have a current data mart. I Need to come up with a new Data mart using the existing ones for creating a set of reports.

Suppose if i have only KPI's  with me for starting our Modeling,

Q1. Will that be sufficient for doing the modeling or i will end up with insufficent information later after i start?

eg.

Kpi no1. Revenue coming out of each Account

Like this i have a set of KPI's

Q2. Assume if i complete the model... later when the report is queried i am feeling that there are possibilities of performance issues (due to more joins that may come up)

maybe you find that you want to set different GRAIN when you want to model data warehouse just for KPIs, But Modeling is not different, you should design a Data Warehouse, and data warehouse can be designed based on Kimball methodology or Inmon,

For modelling a data warehouse you should consider a lot of aspects, star schema, transactional fact, snapshot ...
