mht files not being opened (IE 7.0.5700.6)

Question

IE is allowing me to save pages with 'mht' extension but does not open then up for view??

This is a serious problem for me because now I cannot access pages I saved on my hard drive and will have to revisit them.

Try this out.

Go to - Start > Settings > Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
- Click on 'XLS' (Microsoft Excel Worksheet), in the extension list.
- Click on 'Advanced' button.
- Select 'Open in the same window'
- Click OK

Now try to open your .mht file. Hope this helps.

Just as a follow-up to anyone whom may stumble upon this thread.  These steps will not work with Windows Vista since the File Types dialog and Advanced button are not there anymore.  Seet his link for more info.

I've been able to open MHT files on Windows XP SP2 with IE7 as well as Win2003 R2 with IE7.  When I use Vista SP1 and IE7 it will not open those same MHT files.  I'm concluding that there is definately an issue remaining with this in Vista at this time that has yet to be fixed - at least with Vista the way it is configured out of the box.
